At the 2025 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG Electronics officially launched a series of new artificial intelligence (AI) services aimed at enhancing convenience for consumers in their daily tasks at home, in vehicles, and at the office. LG Electronics CEO Jo Seong-jin stated at the press conference that the company's goal is to redefine people's living spaces, integrating AI into every corner of daily life.
Jo Seong-jin mentioned that LG's AI strategy is called "Friendly Intelligence," emphasizing a human-centered design philosophy. The company focuses on three main areas: connected devices, powerful AI assistants, and integrated services. Additionally, LG announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to jointly promote innovation in AI technology. An important outcome of this collaboration is that Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming will be available on LG smart TVs through the Xbox app, helping LG catch up with competitor Samsung in the cloud gaming space.
Through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, users can directly access hundreds of games on LG smart TVs, including "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" and the upcoming "Avowed." Users only need a Bluetooth wireless controller to enjoy a seamless cloud gaming experience. Chris Jo, Senior Vice President of LG Media Entertainment Solutions, stated that this collaboration will enrich the gaming experience on LG smart TVs, providing more popular game options.
LG has also acquired the startup Athom, aiming to integrate its billions of devices with 170 brands to more efficiently generate AI services and collaborate with other platforms. The company showcased a cute rolling robot named Q9, capable of having natural conversations with family members, further demonstrating LG's vision of applying AI in home life.
LG aims to achieve a labor-free home life through its dedicated home operating system and core appliance technologies, creating a seamless living experience. AI will be applied in various life scenarios; for example, in vehicles, AI can interact with drivers through voice, alerting them to accidents ahead and suggesting detours, and even playing relaxing music to help calm the driver if an elevated heart rate is detected.
At the press conference, LG stated that it will help consumers manage complex content relationships, find free content, and handle multiple subscription services at home. The company hopes to personalize the mobile experience in cars, enhancing overall travel convenience.
