Recently, an engineer named STS3D created a chilling robotic rifle that can aim and shoot based on instructions from ChatGPT, showcasing impressive speed and accuracy. However, this invention has sparked widespread discussion, particularly concerns about turning technologies from fictional sci-fi stories into reality.

A video circulating on social media shows STS3D demonstrating his robotic rifle. In the video, the engineer gives the system the command: “ChatGPT, we are under attack from the left and right; please respond accordingly.” Immediately, the robotic rifle activates and fires what appears to be blank rounds at a nearby wall.

In response, OpenAI quickly reacted to STS3D's actions, stating that it had proactively identified a violation of its policies and promptly notified him to cease the activity. An OpenAI spokesperson pointed out that the company prohibits users from using its services to develop or utilize weapons, as well as to automate systems that could affect personal safety. Although the company quietly revised its usage policies last year to allow the application of its technology for military purposes, it still prohibits any form of “harm to oneself or others.”

STS3D has not responded to this matter, but based on his current status, as an individual user, his latest creation seems to contradict OpenAI's policies. While STS3D is not affiliated with the military or defense contractors, this does not mean that the military sector will not explore similar weapons. In fact, last year a U.S. defense contractor showcased an AI machine gun capable of autonomous firing, potentially in preparation for integrating with OpenAI's technology.

In this context, the prospect of the combination of technology and weaponry is unsettling and has prompted society to reflect deeply on the future direction of technological development.

Key Points:

🌐 OpenAI swiftly severed ties with the engineer developing the robotic rifle due to policy violations.
