Cohere Inc. announced today the launch of its latest AI platform, "North," designed to provide enterprise users with a secure workspace that directly competes with Microsoft's Copilot and Google's Vertex AI. Cohere claims that this new platform outperforms these two tech giants in various fields such as finance, human resources, customer support, and IT.

"North" combines large language models, search capabilities, and automation tools in a secure package, allowing businesses to efficiently deploy AI technology while maintaining control over sensitive data. The platform supports private cloud environments or on-premises installations, specifically designed for regulated industries like finance and healthcare.

Cohere's internal testing shows that while Microsoft Copilot and Google Vertex AI performed well in automated tests, "North" consistently maintained stable accuracy in human evaluations, while competitors' performance noticeably declined. Cohere's CEO, Aidan Gomez, stated in an internal letter, "The AI market is maturing, and businesses are beginning to realize the potential of this technology."

The Royal Bank of Canada has partnered with Cohere to develop a dedicated version of "North" for financial institutions. This marks the platform's first significant application in enterprises.

The built-in search system, Compass, can handle various data types, including images, presentations, spreadsheets, and documents, supporting multiple languages. Internal test results indicate that using this system reduced task completion time by over 80% compared to manual searches.

Gomez noted that what businesses need is not just a finely-tuned consumer-grade AI chatbot, but a true partner that can meet their needs. He stated that Cohere's "North" performs exceptionally well in finance and IT operations, whereas Microsoft Copilot has an accuracy rate of only 29% in IT tasks.

As the demand for AI technology continues to grow among enterprises, the launch of Cohere's "North" could change how businesses implement AI solutions. Gomez emphasized that in the future, every company will become an AI company, necessitating fast, secure, and deployable solutions.

Currently, "North" is available through an early access program for industries such as finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure, with Cohere aiming to reshape enterprise AI applications in terms of security and customization.
