Recently, global technology leader IBM and world-renowned beauty company L'Oréal announced an exciting collaboration plan aimed at leveraging IBM's Generative AI (GenAI) technology to deeply analyze cosmetic formulation data, thereby promoting the use of sustainable raw materials. This innovative effort will develop a customized AI foundational model designed to significantly enhance the performance and consumer satisfaction of L'Oréal's research and development team across various cosmetic products.

This collaboration combines L'Oréal's extensive experience in cosmetic science with IBM's cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology, aiming to achieve a synergy between science and technology to prioritize the development of solutions that are both ecologically responsible and innovative. To protect the Earth's natural resources, it has become crucial to develop renewable and sustainable raw materials. This partnership will support L'Oréal in achieving its "L'Oréal for the Future" plan, striving for most product formulations to be based on bio-sourced materials or circular economy principles by 2030.

The creation of this AI model will be based on a vast amount of formulation and ingredient data, helping L'Oréal's 4,000 researchers accelerate new product development, reformulate existing cosmetics, and optimize large-scale production. Additionally, the IBM consulting team will support L'Oréal in rethinking and redesigning the formulation discovery process to understand the behavior of renewable ingredients in cosmetic formulations, thereby driving the development of more sustainable product lines that meet the personalized needs of global consumers.
