The Windsurf team has launched the Wave2 update, marking our second major upgrade to the Windsurf editor. Highlights of this update include web search, automatic memory features, enterprise-level support, improvements in code execution, and a range of new features such as issue tagging.
The Wave2 update introduces a web search feature. Users can now access information from the internet in real-time via Cascade by simply adding the “@” symbol before a command and entering a specific URL. Cascade can automatically retrieve the latest API documentation or changelogs for open-source projects. This new tool allows developers to conveniently access real-time information, making their work more efficient. Particularly in corporate environments, if users connect through the company VPN, they can directly access internal websites, ensuring the accuracy of information retrieval.
The automatic memory feature is a significant highlight of the Wave2 update. Previous versions introduced explicit memory functionality, but this update allows Cascade to automatically learn and save preferences based on user behavior. This means that as users spend more time using Cascade, it will become increasingly familiar with their work habits, providing more personalized support and services. This feature will be gradually rolled out to all users, and everyone can look forward to experiencing it soon.
Cascade has also made several improvements in code execution. Now, Cascade can utilize the underlying IDE terminal shell to execute commands, providing users with a better experience when using virtual environments (like venv). Additionally, we have strengthened integration with development containers, ensuring that AI can work more efficiently in a secure environment.
Wave2 also includes integration with issue tagging, allowing users to directly push encountered issues to Cascade, helping the AI understand and resolve problems. This feature greatly simplifies developers' workflows, making it quicker to identify and resolve issues.
The Wave2 update is an important step in laying the groundwork for 2025, as enterprise users will benefit from a more comprehensive solution through Windsurf, including single sign-on, in-depth analytics, training, and support services. We look forward to Windsurf providing developers with a more efficient and intelligent work environment in future developments.
