Apple Inc. plans to enable its artificial intelligence (AI) feature, Apple Intelligence, by default for eligible users in the upcoming updates of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3. According to release notes discovered by 9to5Mac, both new users and those upgrading to the latest operating systems will automatically experience the powerful features of Apple Intelligence.

This AI update is not available for all devices and is limited to models that support Apple Intelligence, including iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, iPads and Macs with Apple Silicon M1 chip or later, as well as the latest version of iPad mini.
For Mac users who purchase new devices or upgrade to macOS 15.3, Apple Intelligence will be automatically activated during the device setup process. Users can start using the related features immediately after completing the setup. However, if you wish to disable Apple Intelligence, Apple also provides an easy option: users simply need to go to the “Apple Intelligence and Siri” settings panel and toggle off the “Apple Intelligence” switch to easily disable the AI features on their devices.
This means that after updating your device, if you do not wish to use AI-driven notification summaries, the image processing tool Image Playground, or text rewriting features, you will need to manual disable Apple Intelligence. Users have full autonomy to choose whether to enable this feature.
It is worth noting that last week, users of the iOS 18.3 beta discovered that the AI notification summary feature in news and entertainment apps had flaws, such as incorrectly summarizing a BBC news headline. Apple is working on improvements to make the notification summaries on the lock screen clearer and will explicitly indicate that the summaries “may contain errors” to lower user expectations regarding the accuracy of AI summaries.
