Recently, the Meitu Image Research Institute (MT Lab) collaborated with Beijing Jiaotong University to propose a cutting-edge high-resolution matting technique called MEMatte (Memory Efficient Matting), which has been successfully selected for the prestigious AI conference AAAI 2025. The standout feature of MEMatte technology is that it is a memory-friendly framework for natural image matting, effectively reducing the computational overhead of the model. This innovation makes it possible to perform fine matting of high-definition images in memory-constrained environments, such as commercial graphics cards and edge devices.

With the continuous advancement of image processing technology, matting techniques have been widely applied in various fields, including video production, virtual reality, and augmented reality. However, traditional matting methods often require substantial computational resources, making them difficult to implement in resource-limited scenarios. MEMatte was developed specifically to address this issue, enhancing processing efficiency while maintaining the quality of high-resolution images.

Additionally, the research team has open-sourced a dataset called UHR-395 (Ultra High Resolution dataset) for high-resolution natural image matting. The release of this dataset will provide valuable resources for the training and evaluation of high-resolution models, promoting further development in related technologies. Through open sourcing, the research team hopes to attract more researchers and developers to participate in this field and collectively advance technological progress.
