Recently, Zuckerberg announced that Meta will invest up to $65 billion in its artificial intelligence (AI) projects by 2025.

In a post on Facebook, he stated that 2025 will be a pivotal year for AI, with Meta's AI assistants expected to serve over 1 billion users. The Llama4 model is set to become the industry's leading cutting-edge model. Additionally, Meta plans to develop an AI engineer that will gradually contribute code to the company's research and development efforts.

Zuckerberg revealed that Meta is building a large data center to support this ambitious plan. He emphasized that the company has the financial strength to continue investing and will maintain this momentum in the coming years. This new initiative by Meta aims to strengthen its market position against competitors like OpenAI and Google, who have already invested billions of dollars in developing AI infrastructure.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced plans to invest approximately $80 billion in data centers for the fiscal year 2025, while Amazon stated that its spending in 2025 will exceed $75 billion in 2024. Meanwhile, former President Trump announced that OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle will jointly establish a project called "Stargate," planning to invest $500 billion in AI infrastructure in the United States.

Meta's latest move demonstrates its ambitions in the AI competition, especially with the push of its AI chatbot, Ray-Ban smart glasses, and open-source models that allow consumers and most businesses to use its Llama AI model for free. The planned capital expenditure of $60 billion to $65 billion for 2025 marks a significant increase from the company's previous estimate of $38 billion to $40 billion last year and also exceeds analysts' forecast of $50.25 billion for 2025.

In the fierce competition in the AI field, Meta's decisions are sure to attract widespread attention, especially in the context of rapidly evolving AI technologies. It remains to be seen how Zuckerberg and his team's future vision will reshape the digital landscape.
