According to recent reports, Apple is actively exploring robotics technology and plans to develop both humanoid and non-humanoid robots. These robots are currently in the internal validation stage, and Apple aims to integrate them into its smart home ecosystem. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed on social media that Apple's focus is on the interaction experience between users and robots, rather than the design of the robots themselves.
Apple's design philosophy is somewhat similar to Samsung's smart home robot, Ballie, which resembles a basketball and can perform tasks at home, such as greeting owners and projecting notifications. Apple is also researching similar robots to provide users with a more convenient smart home experience.
Additionally, in November last year, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman mentioned that Apple is developing a smart home display intended to control household appliances, support video calls, and utilize AI technology to navigate applications. This product is expected to feature Apple's AI system, "Apple Intelligence," and may be launched in March next year. Through the development of robotics technology, Apple clearly aims to further expand its influence in the smart home market.
However, Kuo also pointed out that mass production of Apple's robots may not occur until 2028 or later, depending on the project's progress. He reminded people that some of Apple's concept products, such as the Apple Car, ultimately did not reach mass production, so the future success of the robot project remains uncertain.
As artificial intelligence technology advances, more and more tech companies are entering the robotics field, intensifying market competition. Companies like OpenAI and Tesla are also ramping up hiring to expand their robotics teams. Meanwhile, Apptronik has just completed a $35 million funding round, planning to accelerate the deployment of its 5-foot-8-inch, 160-pound Apollo robot.
