Reports indicate that Microsoft's engineers are working diligently to prepare server capacity for OpenAI's upcoming GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 models. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently confirmed that GPT-4.5 will be released in a few weeks, and Microsoft is expected to launch this new AI model next week.

Referred to as Orion, GPT-4.5 will be OpenAI's next cutting-edge model and the company's last non-thinking chain model. Although OpenAI has revealed that GPT-4.5's capabilities will be significantly more powerful than its predecessor GPT-4, their focus is also on the GPT-5 model, which will include more major technological innovations. According to current plans, Microsoft expects GPT-5 to be released by the end of May this year, which aligns with Altman's previous statement that the next-generation model would be launched within a few months. However, the release date may vary due to scheduling adjustments.

Initially, OpenAI planned to launch GPT-4.5 by the end of 2024, but this plan has been postponed to early 2025. GPT-5 is considered the more important of the two models, with Altman describing it as "a system that integrates many of our technologies."

Furthermore, GPT-5 will also integrate OpenAI's new o3 reasoning model, which was first introduced in a Christmas announcement last December. While OpenAI released o3-mini last month, they no longer intend to launch o3 as a standalone model, opting instead to merge it with the GPT-5 system. This integration aligns with OpenAI's goal of combining large language models to ultimately create a more powerful model that could be referred to as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
