The Hong Kong Institute of Generative AI (HKGAI), spearheaded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, officially launched its first locally developed generative AI large language model, HKGAI V1, on February 25th. This significant breakthrough injects new vitality into Hong Kong's AI ecosystem, marking a major advancement in this cutting-edge technology field.

HKGAI V1 is the industry's first large language model to undergo full parameter fine-tuning and continuous training based on DeepSeek technology. It boasts a powerful local knowledge base and can understand and generate responses in multiple languages, including Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. The launch not only showcases Hong Kong's innovation in AI technology but also offers new application possibilities for local businesses and citizens.

At the launch event, the Secretary for Innovation, Technology, and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Sun Dong, stated that artificial intelligence is leading a new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation, and Hong Kong is not absent from this technological tide. He expects HKGAI V1 to quickly serve the industry and citizens, providing practical intelligent services to the public and expanding to global Chinese communities in the future.

Professor Guo Yike, Senior Vice-President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Director of the HKGAI Research Center, emphasized that the launch of HKGAI V1 will significantly enhance the application capabilities of AI in real-world scenarios, supporting Hong Kong's digital transformation and the construction of a global AI ecosystem. Currently, HKGAI V1 already covers five major application scenarios, capable of answering user questions in real-time, assisting in document writing, generating meeting summaries, and providing references to Hong Kong-related laws and cases. Notably, with the coordination of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, about 70 government departments have participated in the trial use of HKGAI V1, promoting its application in office work.

The launch of HKGAI V1 not only reflects Hong Kong's efforts in AI research and development but also lays the foundation for the future development of technology in Hong Kong. We expect this technology to better serve society and the economy, enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness in the global technology field.
