According to CCTV News, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has recently released an international standard for elderly care robots, spearheaded by China. This marks a new development stage for the elderly care robot industry. The standard, numbered IEC63310, is titled "Performance Criteria for Active Assistive Living Robots Used in Interconnected Home Environments." Developed based on the physiological and behavioral characteristics of the elderly, this standard provides crucial guidance for the design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of various elderly care robots.

The release of this standard aims to meet the diverse needs of the elderly in daily life and health care. It not only addresses the elderly's need for assistive support but also categorizes the functions and performance of elderly care robots. Specifically, the standard outlines a series of technical requirements, including usability, reliability, barrier-free design, energy consumption control, and noise levels. Furthermore, elderly care robots must also meet corresponding technical standards in areas such as health monitoring, emergency response, family communication support, and assistance with household chores and recreational activities.

With the accelerating global aging population, it's projected that by 2050, there will be 2.1 billion people aged 60 and above worldwide, including 426 million aged 80 and above. The physical and cognitive abilities of the elderly may decline to varying degrees, and elderly care robots can effectively alleviate the care burden on society and families, while also enabling the elderly to live independently at home with a higher quality of life.

The release of this international standard will help elderly care robot manufacturers better understand the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly, leading to more precise product design and development, improved product quality, better social integration for the elderly, and ultimately benefiting the global aging population.
