Founded in 2016 by Bhavin Shah, Vaibhav Nivargi, Varun Singh, and Jiang Chen, Moveworks focuses on developing enterprise chatbots to augment the capabilities of human customer service representatives. CEO Shah mentioned in an interview that 2016 wasn't an ideal time, as the industry was generally skeptical about the future of chatbots. It wasn't until 2017, with Google's introduction of the "Transformer" based language model, that Moveworks found a stronger technological foundation.
With advancements in technology, Moveworks began utilizing early language models like Google's BERT in 2021, fine-tuning them with its own corporate data to enhance chatbot performance. These optimized language models not only surpassed older recurrent neural networks and natural language processing techniques but also played a significant role in the customer service of several large enterprises.
Moveworks' chatbots can automate 70% to 80% of customer service tasks, serving prominent companies such as Hearst, Instacart, and Toyota. These projects not only provided Moveworks with extensive industry experience but also helped them optimize integration with various backend databases and enterprise applications.
As large language model (LLM) technology matured, Moveworks' business grew. Vice President Varun Singh stated that the latest assistant can handle the work of 36 different human customer service agents, demonstrating strong cross-application capabilities. Moveworks' innovation caught the attention of ServiceNow, which aims to strengthen its AI strategy through this acquisition.
ServiceNow's Chief Product Officer, Amit Zavery, stated that the acquisition of Moveworks will provide a significant boost to the company's enterprise-level AI adoption. The combination of Moveworks' team and ServiceNow's workflow automation platform will deliver a new user experience for both employees and customers.
