Zoom has announced a significant upgrade to its AI assistant, Zoom AI Companion, marking its evolution from a personal assistant to a true "intelligent agent." These new features aim to enhance user interaction and productivity during video meetings. Zoom's Chief Product Officer, Smita Hashim, stated that the AI Companion's advancements will significantly boost productivity and collaboration in the workplace.

New features include "Zoom Tasks," which identifies to-dos from meeting summaries, chat logs, and emails, automatically completing tasks like scheduling follow-up meetings or generating documents. This feature is expected to launch later this month and will be embeddable within Zoom Docs.

Another highly anticipated feature is a new voice recorder, accessible through the Zoom Workplace mobile app. It transcribes, summarizes, and captures offline conversations for later review.

Zoom also introduces a "Meeting Agenda" feature to keep meetings on track. Hosts can set timers for different topics and receive AI-generated real-time notes during the meeting. These two features are slated for a May launch.

To streamline the hybrid work experience, Zoom is launching an AI-powered "Workspace Booking" feature. This displays colleagues' office attendance, suggests optimal attendance days based on existing meeting schedules, and even books meeting rooms or desks. This feature is also planned for a May release.

Zoom Docs will also receive AI Companion enhancements, such as an "Advanced Referencing" feature (June launch) that helps build writing plans from internal and external references and integrates them into documents. Furthermore, a data table creation feature (July launch) will allow users to request the AI assistant to create data tables from content, including meeting summaries.

For users wanting more AI support, a "Custom AI Assistant" add-on will launch in April, allowing customization of features such as creating custom meeting templates, meeting summary templates, and building glossaries. This add-on will cost $12 per user per month.

These new Zoom AI Companion features remain free for paid users. With these innovations, Zoom continues its commitment to boosting workplace efficiency across various sectors, including industry-specific applications for frontline workers, healthcare professionals, educators, and more.
