As various AI large language models are rapidly iterating, Anthropic, a highly anticipated AI startup, is quietly preparing a significant upgrade—giving its AI chatbot, Claude, the ability to "speak." Mike Krieger, Anthropic's Chief Product Officer, recently revealed to the Financial Times that the company is actively exploring new user experiences, allowing users to interact directly with the powerful Claude AI model via voice.
Krieger pointed out that as Claude's applications expand, especially on desktops, voice interaction is expected to become a more natural and efficient user interface. "We're looking at how Claude on the desktop can evolve further...if it's going to be used to operate a computer, then voice is likely to be a more intuitive choice," he said. He also revealed that Anthropic has already initiated research and development on voice functionality internally and has successfully developed several prototypes. "Voice is a very promising interaction modality, and we are actively exploring how to seamlessly integrate it into our product."
To accelerate the launch of Claude's voice capabilities, Anthropic has engaged in active discussions with key investors and partners, including Amazon, and ElevenLabs, an AI startup specializing in voice technology. Although no final agreements have been reached yet, these moves clearly signal a major breakthrough for Claude in the field of voice interaction.
Krieger further revealed that Anthropic has communicated with "many potential partners," hoping to leverage external resources to deliver a high-quality voice interaction experience to users more quickly. It's foreseeable that in the near future, interaction with AI chatbots will no longer be limited to cold text; a more human-like era of voice communication may be arriving.
