Lazada, Alibaba's Southeast Asian e-commerce platform, has launched a new AI assistant, Lazzie Seller, designed to provide merchants with more efficient operational support. The launch of Lazzie Seller marks Lazada's further integration of artificial intelligence technology in the e-commerce field to enhance merchant operational efficiency.
Leveraging Lazada's years of experience in e-commerce operations, Lazzie Seller utilizes natural language processing technology to quickly answer merchants' various operational questions, including functional navigation, store risk assessment, and providing professional advice. This feature allows each merchant to have a smart assistant, helping them better manage their stores and improve work efficiency. Many merchants are optimistic and willing to try the new technologies provided by Lazada.
Since its inception, Lazada has actively integrated AI technology into its operations, including intelligent recommendation systems, AI image search functions, and logistics route optimization. In 2023, Lazada also launched Southeast Asia's first e-commerce scenario generative AI customer service tool, LazzieChat. Subsequently, in 2024, Lazada further launched a consumer AI solution based on generative AI technology – AI Lazzie, covering personalized shopping recommendations, virtual model try-ons, and intelligent comment organization, aiming to enhance the consumer shopping experience and efficiency.
To encourage more merchants to use these AI technologies, Lazada has also released the Merchant AI Application Handbook. This handbook provides customized guidance based on merchants' AI usage levels, helping them better apply AI tools and improve their business performance.
According to a recent Southeast Asian e-commerce AI report released by Kantar, the current AI tool application rate among Southeast Asian merchants is less than 37%, while the usage rate among Lazada merchants is significantly higher, reaching 67%. This data indicates that Lazada has become a leader in AI application in the Southeast Asian e-commerce sector.
Alibaba CEO, Wu Yongming, emphasized in a recent earnings call with analysts that over the next three years, Alibaba will increase investment in its AI strategy, focusing on AI and cloud computing infrastructure, AI foundation model platforms and native application development, and the AI transformation of existing businesses. This series of measures aims to drive the development of Lazada and other businesses, further enhancing competitiveness in the e-commerce market.
