The Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry Investment Fund announced a further RMB 200 million investment in Zhipu.AI (Z.ai), building on its previous investment. This investment will support Zhipu.AI's open-source model research and development, and the construction of its open-source community ecosystem. Zhipu.AI was the first AI large model company invested in by the fund and is currently the fastest-growing company. Zhipu.AI has comprehensive capabilities in models including text, reasoning, speech, image, video, and code, with a well-established commercial layout and a developer and enterprise user community exceeding one million.

This additional investment aims to further promote Zhipu.AI's capacity building in open-source models and algorithm innovation. Zhipu.AI has actively promoted the development of the open-source ecosystem, previously declaring 2025 as its "Open Source Year." On April 14th, Zhipu.AI open-sourced its 32B/9B series GLM models, including base, inference, and contemplation models, all under the permissive MIT license, allowing free commercial use and distribution, which has attracted widespread attention from the industry.

To further promote the construction of the open-source ecosystem, the Zhipu Z Fund has invested RMB 300 million to support the development of global AI open-source communities. Any startup project based on open-source models (not limited to Zhipu.AI's open-source models) is eligible to apply. Zhipu.AI is committed to promoting AI accessibility. In 2023, it pioneered the open-sourcing of China's first Chat large model, ChatGLM-6B, attracting over ten million downloads in a short period. In nearly six years, Zhipu.AI has open-sourced over 55 models, accumulating nearly 40 million downloads in the international open-source community.

In its declared 2025 "Open Source Year," Zhipu.AI has successively open-sourced CogView4, the first open-source text-to-image model supporting Chinese character generation, and its latest 32B/9B series GLM models, including base, inference, and contemplation models. Zhipu.AI is actively promoting the overall prosperity of the large model open-source ecosystem and striving to contribute its strength to making Beijing a "global open-source capital" for artificial intelligence.
