Ant Group's distributed database, OceanBase, today announced a major upgrade to its talent and organizational structure, aiming to ensure the efficient implementation of the company's AI strategy. OceanBase CEO Yang Bing revealed this decision in an internal letter.

According to the letter, OceanBase CTO Yang Chuanhui will take the lead on the company's AI strategy, comprehensively overseeing the formulation of the strategy and the implementation of related technologies and products.

To strengthen its AI capabilities, OceanBase has established a new AI Platform and Application Department, with Yang Chuanhui serving as the acting head. This department integrates the former ODC and OAS teams and welcomes Cai Feizhi and Wang He. Its core mission is to vigorously advance the development and application of the "DATAxAI" platform, focusing on building core capabilities such as RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation), AI platforms, and knowledge bases.

Furthermore, a new AI Engine team has been established within OceanBase's existing underlying engine team, headed by Xi Huafeng. Shan Haikang and Huang Renhuang have joined the team, focusing on building a high-performance AI inference engine. Xi Huafeng will continue to report to Han Fusheng, and the system team, previously managed by Xi Huafeng, will also report directly to Han Fusheng.

The internal letter also revealed that Ant Group will open all its AI scenarios to OceanBase. This move will strongly support OceanBase in building a data foundation for the AI era. This series of organizational and personnel adjustments marks OceanBase's full-speed acceleration to adapt to the new challenges and opportunities brought about by the development of AI technology.
