The UK Information Commissioner's Office recently conducted an investigation into Snap Inc., expressing concerns that its generative AI chatbot could infringe upon user privacy, particularly for Snapchat users aged 13 to 17. The investigation revealed that Snap failed to adequately identify and assess the potential risks to children's and other users' privacy posed by 'My AI'. Although the preliminary investigation results are not yet conclusive, if it ultimately leads to a regulatory notice, Snap may be required to cease providing the AI chatbot in the UK until privacy issues are resolved. Snap has stated that it will cooperate actively, emphasizing that legal and privacy reviews were conducted prior to release. This AI robot, based on OpenAI's ChatGPT, features parental notifications and anti-offensive capabilities.
