Protests have erupted outside Meta's headquarters in the United States, opposing its strategy of open-sourcing AI models due to concerns that the leakage of these model weights could have negative impacts. Meta's Chief Scientist, LeCun, however, argues that the open-source AI community is gaining significant momentum. The industry remains divided on the merits of open-source versus closed-source models; while open-source can enhance transparency, it also carries the risk of being misused. Currently, there is no universally agreed-upon definition for "open-source AI."
