The Office of Management and Budget has issued draft regulations requiring the assessment and oversight of artificial intelligence algorithms used in healthcare, law enforcement, housing, and other sectors to prevent discrimination and human rights issues. This regulation could impact the use of AI by the U.S. government, such as the criticism faced by the FBI's facial recognition technology for not implementing safeguards for civil liberties. Government agencies are mandated to evaluate existing algorithms by August 2024 and cease using those that do not comply with the regulations.
