The report from global automated identity verification provider Onfido reveals that digital forgery attacks have surged over the past two years, with the number of digital forgeries increasing fivefold compared to 2021, reaching an astonishing 18%. Meanwhile, video fraud attacks are growing at nearly quadruple the annual rate, accounting for 80% of biometric defenses. The report also indicates that global fraudsters are targeting national identity cards, which constitute 46.8% of all forged documents, followed by passports at 26.7%. For financial service institutions, 79% of the attacks are launched using relatively simple and scalable models, allowing fraudsters to identify exploitable vulnerabilities before conducting large-scale attacks.
