Recently, Dr. Cao Kai from Shanghai Hospital led a team to publish a paper in a top medical journal using AI technology, achieving the mass screening of early-stage pancreatic cancer through regular flat-scan CT. They trained a model named PANDA, which uses algorithms to identify pancreatic cancer lesions from flat-scan CT images. Initially, they collected CT data from 3000 patients, which was manually annotated by 48 doctors to build a dataset. Then, they designed a model that integrates multiple algorithms for training. The model has been put into use and successfully identified 2 cases of pancreatic cancer that were previously missed by clinical diagnosis. With an accuracy rate of 99.9%, it is expected to usher in a new era of cancer screening.
