Google announced on Tuesday that its AI-powered Gemini mobile app is officially entering the Indian market, supporting nine major local Indian languages in addition to English, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and more.
The app allows users to type or speak in any supported language for interaction with the Gemini AI assistant for assistance. Previously, the Gemini app was first launched in the United States in February this year and has since expanded to several overseas markets including Europe and East Asia.
It's worth noting that the Indian version of the Gemini app includes an option to access the paid premium experience of "Gemini Advanced." Based on Google's latest Gemini 1.5 Pro large model, the Advanced version offers a 1 million token window, capable of handling tasks such as processing 1,500 pages of documents and complex data analysis, and also supports the nine Indian languages.
As the world's second-largest smartphone market by population, India has always been a strategic market for tech companies. With localized voice recognition and content understanding capabilities, Google is expected to make the Gemini AI app more widely adopted among Indian users.
Additionally, Google plans to integrate Gemini into the iOS version of the Google app in India in the coming weeks. It will also enable the Gemini AI assistant feature on Google Messages starting today. The company previously shared potential applications of Gemini across various Google product lines at the I/O conference.
