OpenAI is undertaking a series of acquisition initiatives. Following the acquisition of the database technology company Rockset, OpenAI has now acquired a startup named Multi (formerly known as Remotion), which is developing a video-centric collaboration platform for enterprises.

Insiders reveal that this transaction is essentially an acquisition, with the majority of Multi's team joining OpenAI post-transaction.

Multi's CEO, Alexander Embiricos, and another co-founder, Charley Ho, who previously worked at Dropbox and Google respectively, have created a Zoom-based platform aimed at enabling remote teams to work together via video chat.

Multi offers features including simultaneous screen sharing for up to 10 people, customizable shortcuts, and automatic deep linking. According to Crunchbase data, Multi raised $13 million in cash prior to this exit from venture capital firms including Greylock and First Round Capital.

Similar to the acquisition of Rockset, the acquisition of Multi appears to align with OpenAI's recent strategy of significant investment in enterprise solutions. OpenAI recently disclosed that its AI-based chatbot platform, ChatGPT, has nearly 600,000 enterprise users, including 93% of the Fortune 500 companies. The five-person Multi team will join OpenAI post-transaction.

In May, OpenAI signed an agreement with PwC to resell OpenAI's tools to other enterprises. A month earlier, the company launched a customized AI model tuning and consulting program for enterprises. These enterprise purchases seem to be yielding returns, with OpenAI's revenue expected to exceed $3.4 billion this year.
