AI audio creation company ElevenLabs, founded by former Palantir engineers, has now announced the launch of its first iOS app: "ElevenLabs Reader".
The app is designed to convert text files or web links into audio narrations that users can listen to on the go. Unlike the various AI models and features included on the ElevenLabs website, this iOS app is more focused, concentrating on transforming text into audio narrations.

Currently, the text-to-speech function of the app only supports English, but a pop-up screen indicates that the over 29 languages supported by the ElevenLabs website will soon be available on the iOS Reader app.

Users can download the app for free from the Apple App Store, requiring iOS 15 or later. First-time use requires logging into an existing ElevenLabs account or creating a new account via email and password, Google, or Apple account.
After logging in, users will see a series of preloaded text files and corresponding audio narrations, mostly public fairy tales and folk stories such as "Cinderella", "The Three Bears", "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", and Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Victorian detective novel "Sherlock Holmes".
Additionally, users can add their own content via the plus button in the top right corner of the app's main menu, including writing their own text, importing URLs copied and pasted from a mobile web browser, or selecting files from the iOS Files app.
The app also integrates with the iOS default share sheet, allowing users to add widgets in the browser and share links to the ElevenLabs iOS Reader app while browsing, without the need to copy and paste.
Clicking the default speed indicator in the bottom right corner of the app allows users to increase the speed from 0.8x to 2x. Users can also select from 11 different voices and accents by clicking the icon on the left.
