The video editing app Captions, backed by a16z, Kleiner Perkins, and Sequoia Capital, has introduced a new feature that allows users to add custom graphics, zooms, music, sound effects, transitions, and dynamic backgrounds to existing, unedited videos based on their content.

The AI editing feature has some limitations; the video should be a vertical shot of a person speaking, and only one person should be in the frame.
Importantly, even if you don't have such videos or don't like this style of filming, you can use Captions' AI character to create a video with a brief prompt, then input that video into the AI editing feature to get a fully edited video with different transitions and effects in just a few minutes.
Gaurav Misra, the co-founder and CEO of Captions, stated that Captions aims to provide people with three types of video recording tools. Firstly, it aims to offer the best camera kit for assistance in recording. Secondly, it provides AI-supported editing tools for manually recorded videos. Lastly, Captions has a generative layer where users don't need to record videos at all.
Currently, the company offers 12 AI characters. However, in the future, the company hopes to add three to four characters to its product portfolio every week. Ultimately, the startup's goal is to allow users to create their own AI characters.
Misra believes that these tools are primarily for sales, marketing, and communication channels of consumer-facing companies. Companies like D-ID and Synthesia allow organizations to create digital characters for videos. Earlier this month, TikTok also allowed creators to make AI characters and provided its own AI character library for advertising. Misra thinks that Captions offers higher quality service, and you can access all video creation tools on your phone.
The company plans to release new features for AI-based video creation, such as a sketch feature that allows two (or identical) characters to have a dialogue with each other.
