German automotive giant Audi has announced that starting from the summer of 2021, it will add an artificial intelligence assistant, ChatGPT, to its existing fleet of 2 million vehicles. This move marks a significant step forward for Audi in enhancing driving experiences and safety.
According to Audi's press release, the company plans to integrate ChatGPT into all vehicles equipped with the MIB3 (third-generation information entertainment system). By leveraging Microsoft Azure OpenAI services, Audi will provide AI chatbots for existing models. For new models supporting the E31.2 electronic architecture, such as the Q6e-tron, Audi will prefer Cerence Chat Pro as the platform.

This service is expected to launch in July. At that time, Audi owners will be able to interact with their cars through natural language, enabling voice control over the infotainment, navigation, and air conditioning systems. ChatGPT will even be able to answer general knowledge questions, offering drivers more convenient services.
Audi emphasizes that the introduction of the AI assistant will significantly enhance driving safety, as drivers no longer need to take their eyes off the road to operate vehicle systems. Users can activate the AI assistant function by pressing a button on the steering wheel or saying "Hey, Audi."
Marcus Keith, Vice President of Interior, Infotainment, and Connectivity Development at Audi, said: "This is the next step towards a top-tier in-car experience for Audi vehicles." The German automaker is also exploring the application of artificial intelligence in other areas of the manufacturing process, aiming to "fully tap into the potential of artificial intelligence."
In addition to enabling more functions inside the car, Audi also plans to use artificial intelligence to support quality control in factories, such as checking spot welds and detecting cracks in the body structure. This indicates that Audi is committed to applying artificial intelligence technology throughout the automotive manufacturing process.
In terms of privacy, Audi promises to prioritize data security. All questions and answers will be deleted after processing, and ChatGPT will not access vehicle data. Audi states that it complies with the EU Data Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act, and its employees are undergoing AI training to adapt to the future of the automotive industry.
