During an interview at a London event, Bill Gates stated that he is not concerned about the increased electricity consumption caused by artificial intelligence applications. He believes that artificial intelligence will ultimately help reduce energy consumption and accelerate the transition to sustainable energy sources.

As Gates explained, even in the worst-case scenario, the additional electricity contribution from data centers would be only 6%, and more likely only 2% to 2.5%. He said, "The key question is whether artificial intelligence can accelerate the reduction in energy consumption beyond 6%. The answer is undoubtedly yes."
Gates also believes that the increased demand for electricity will encourage technology companies to invest more in green electricity, "to show that they are using green energy." However, research by Goldman Sachs and the Electricity Research Institute predicts that by 2030, data centers may account for up to 9% of electricity consumption in the United States.
Critics are concerned that the rapid development of artificial intelligence may increase the use of fossil fuels.
Key Points:
- 💡 Bill Gates believes that the increased electricity consumption from artificial intelligence will promote the application and development of sustainable energy.
- 💡 Data shows that even in the worst-case scenario, the additional electricity contribution from data centers may not exceed 6%.
- 💡 Critics worry that the rapid development of artificial intelligence may lead to an increase in the use of fossil fuels.
