On Monday, Meta announced an update to the 'Made with AI' tag in the Instagram app, renaming it to 'AI info'. Users can click on this tag to access more information, as previously, people had complained about incorrect tags being applied to their photos.

Pete Souza, a former White House photographer, pointed out that the tag would appear when uploading photos initially taken on film to a basketball game 40 years ago. He speculates that the use of Adobe's cropping tools and image compositing might trigger the tag.

The issue seems to arise from metadata tools like Adobe Photoshop being applied to images and how the platform interprets these images. After Meta expanded its policy on marking AI content, real photos posted on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Threads were tagged as "Made with AI".

The new tag may first be seen in mobile applications before being rolled out on the web version. After clicking the tag, it will still display the same message as the old tag, which provides a more detailed explanation of why it might be applied. It covers images that are entirely generated by AI or edited using tools that contain AI technology, such as fill generation.
