According to a recent report by The Information, Google has decided to split its AI assistant Pixie project to prevent it from competing with its cross-platform Gemini project. Following a management-level assessment, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reportedly made the adjustment. Parts of the Pixie project have been integrated into Pixel phones' screenshot application, while other technologies have been incorporated into Gemini's multitasking capabilities.

Google recently announced the beta availability of the Gemini Nano lightweight AI model for Android developers. This model is designed for lightweight tasks on-device, suitable for low-performance smartphones and tablets. Developers can integrate this model into their applications using Google's AI Edge SDK. The Gemini Nano model is part of the Google Gemini model family, offering three main advantages: ensuring privacy, operation without internet connectivity, and no subscription required.

Google has launched the Pixel Screenshots app for the Pixel 9 series, aimed at intelligently managing screenshot information. The app uses the Gemini Nano model to analyze image content directly on the device, making screenshots searchable; users can quickly find specific screenshots by keywords, improving information retrieval efficiency. The app supports the creation of custom collections and automatically filters screenshots related to keywords, featuring information extraction capabilities, such as extracting T-shirt prices from images. Currently, it is only available for Pixel 9 series devices.
