Tech Mahindra has launched Project Indus, an open-source language model aimed at Indian languages, which may be the company's most significant project to date. The model will initially support 40 dialects of Hindi languages, with a parameter scale expected to reach 7 billion. The model is projected to serve 25% of India's population. Collecting data for different languages and dialects remains the biggest challenge. Tech Mahindra is gathering datasets through language donation channels and collaborating with various stakeholders.
