In the field of education, students and educators are beginning to leverage AI tools to enhance classroom learning. Initially, some educational institutions were reluctant to adopt this technology to some extent, but now, the majority of educators express support, and Adobe has taken notice of this trend.
Last week, the company showcased new features in Adobe Express for Education. This is a responsible and classroom-appropriate AI tool platform designed specifically for education, aiming to encourage students to take the lead in their own learning experiences.
Created by educators for educators, the platform utilizes Adobe Express technology to engage students in creative projects and assignments, characterized by "collaboration, simplicity, and enhanced student engagement and communication skills." This includes a pioneering assignment feature that connects teachers and students in real-time, enhanced multimedia presentation and animation capabilities, and thousands of readily available subject-specific templates.
Christine Morgan, a teacher at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD at Hairgrove Elementary, stated, "For today's K-12 educators, integrating AI into classroom curricula is crucial, but simply having AI tools is not enough." Adobe hopes that its focus on generative AI capabilities will help inspire students' creative potential and create a level playing field in the classroom, allowing all students to "unlock" their artistic talents and critical thinking skills.
One of the most notable features of Adobe Express for Education is its accessibility—the platform is free for all K-12 teachers and students. It can also integrate with existing educational software such as Canvas, Google Classroom, Schoology, and more.
Some new updates include a feature to generate templates, allowing students to create their own templates for art projects and activities, as well as image generation and fill capabilities, which can easily transform students' ideas into images.
It is worth noting that the platform does not use AI to generate text, so for text-intensive assignments like research papers, Adobe Express is not a practical tool.
For those more concerned with maintaining student privacy and ethical standards in the classroom, the platform adheres to Adobe's "Your Data Is Your Data" privacy principle. This means Adobe has taken security measures to further promote a "safe learning environment" and does not train its models on students' or teachers' work.
Currently, most of the new features of Adobe Express for Education are available globally, including a self-service option that allows administrators to set up Adobe Express for an entire school district. Features such as generating coloring pages and assignments, as well as support for iPads, are still under development.
