Microsoft has announced that they plan to roll out the controversial Recall AI feature for Windows Insiders in October. Actually, as early as June this year, Microsoft intended to release this feature alongside Copilot Plus PC, but due to security concerns, they had to postpone it.

The Recall feature is actually quite intriguing; it can capture most of what you see on your computer screen, and then you can easily search for and find previously viewed items. There is also a timeline feature that allows you to review work from any given day, truly a very convenient tool.

However, despite Microsoft's claims that the feature is safe and private, security personnel have found that the Recall database is not encrypted, which has led some to worry that malicious software might exploit this.

In response to these concerns, Microsoft has stated that they are making significant modifications. They plan to make the Recall feature opt-in for users rather than enabled by default, will encrypt the database, and implement Windows Hello for authentication. These measures are all aimed at ensuring user safety and privacy.

Pavan Davuluri, the Chief of Windows and Surface at Microsoft, mentioned in a blog post that although the Recall feature has been delayed, security remains their top priority.

They hope to deliver a trustworthy preview experience when they officially launch Recall in October. Although we look forward to the release of Recall, considering that Microsoft typically requires several weeks to months of testing time, we may have to wait until next year to see the official release of Recall.
