At Meta's inaugural "AI Builders Summit," Meta's Vice President and Chief AI Scientist, LeCun, shared crucial insights on AI development. This leading expert in the AI field believes that AI will not dominate or replace humans but will become a significant tool to amplify human intelligence.

LeCun likened using AI assistants to having a team of intelligent collaborators, noting that these assistants may surpass users in certain abilities. "Although AI assistants may eventually be smarter than us, we should not feel threatened but should gain enhanced capabilities from them," LeCun stated.

Regarding India's role in the future of AI, LeCun emphasized, "India will not only play a significant role in the development of domestic AI products but will also be pivotal in the international market."

Meta's AI, driven by the open-source AI model Llama, currently has over 500 million monthly active users and is expected to become the most widely used AI assistant globally by the end of 2024, with India being its largest market. The assistant now supports English and Hindi on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

"Open source is crucial now and in the future; AI will become a global shared infrastructure," LeCun said. Meanwhile, Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President of Meta India, announced that India will be the second country, after the U.S., to gain access to AI Studio. Users can create Llama-driven AI avatars based on their personal interests through AI Studio.

Despite the rapid development of AI, LeCun admitted that even the largest language models (LLMs) are not as intelligent as a four-year-old child, indicating that human-level AI is still some time away. However, generative AI has become one of Meta's five core pillars. The company is developing next-generation AI systems with the goal of achieving human-level intelligence, including the internal project codenamed "Advanced Machine Intelligence" (AMI), which aims to address the limitations faced by current LLMs.

This summit not only showcased Meta's ambitions in the AI field but also reflected the company's focus on the Indian market. Through open-source strategies and localized services, Meta is striving to gain a competitive edge in the global AI race.
