Recently, the research team introduced a novel head fusion pipeline named CHANGER, designed to provide high-fidelity head synthesis solutions for digital content creation. This technology is particularly significant in industrial applications, especially in visual effects (VFX), digital human creation, and virtual avatars.

The main challenge in head fusion lies in the differences in head shapes and hair structures, which often result in unnatural synthesis boundaries and fusion artifacts. Existing methods typically treat foreground and background processing as a single task, leading to unsatisfactory fusion effects.

CHANGER addresses this by decoupling background integration from foreground fusion, achieving seamless integration of the reference head with the target body, with excellent body fusion. This pipeline employs chroma key technology to achieve artifact-free background generation and introduces head shape and hair enhancement (H2 enhancement) techniques to simulate various head shapes and hairstyles. This approach not only enhances adaptability to diverse real-world scenes but also improves prediction and focus on key head and body regions through the Foreground Prediction Attention Transformer (FPAT) module.

Studies show that CHANGER outperforms existing state-of-the-art technologies in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations on benchmark datasets, providing high-fidelity, industrial-grade synthesis effects. To better demonstrate this technology, the research team successfully captured video examples of high-fidelity head fusion in real environments through the combination of chroma key technology and the CHANGER pipeline.

The advantage of CHANGER lies in its efficient and practical processing flow. Firstly, by introducing chroma key technology, it can seamlessly process the background, eliminating artifacts in background synthesis; secondly, the application of H2 enhancement technology allows the synthesized head to adapt to a wider variety of hairstyles and shapes; finally, the design of the FPAT module ensures a more natural and smooth fusion effect between the foreground and background. The combination of these technologies enables CHANGER to exhibit superior performance in various industrial applications.
