Recently, rumors about BYD acquiring NIO have surfaced online, attracting widespread public attention and discussion. In response, both BYD and NIO quickly issued statements emphasizing that the news is false.
According to an investigation by the Economic Development Bureau of Hefei Public Security Bureau, the creator of the rumor is a 29-year-old man named Xie from another province. In an attempt to increase the visibility and traffic of his social media account, he used artificial intelligence technology to fabricate false images and information, which he then spread online.
After verifying with the relevant companies, the police confirmed that the content circulating online was indeed a rumor. Specifically, Xie posted a message on his social platform claiming that BYD and NIO would jointly establish a new company called "Future BYD Automotive Group," with BYD holding a 51% stake and NIO holding 49%. Additionally, he claimed that this company would acquire NIO for 16.5 billion yuan, and after the acquisition, NIO would be directly controlled by Future BYD Group while still operating independently as NIO Group.
The spread of this false information garnered significant attention, prompting NIO executives to respond on social media, stating that these claims were entirely false. Meanwhile, BYD's PR manager, Li Yunfei, also issued a statement declaring that the information circulating online regarding investments and cooperation between BYD and NIO was seriously inaccurate. He urged netizens to remain rational and not to believe or spread rumors.
Ultimately, following the police investigation and evidence collection, Xie was lawfully arrested and subjected to administrative detention for creating rumors that disrupted social order.
