xAI recently announced a major upgrade to its Grok AI chatbot, with the new version promising significant improvements in performance, even claiming to be comparable to Sonnet3.5, especially in prompt-following capabilities. This upgrade, Grok-2, is now available for free to all users on the X platform, and paid users will enjoy higher usage limits and additional features.

Additionally, Grok-2 includes citations for the sources of the information it provides.

It is currently unclear whether xAI has reached any payment arrangements with content publishers for the use of their content, while competitors like OpenAI and Perplexity already have such agreements in place. Moreover, Grok has introduced a new Grok button designed to provide additional context for ongoing discussions, including the ability to explain images in conversations.
