Israeli tech company Lightricks recently launched a lightning-fast AI video processing platform called LTX Video (LTXV). This platform utilizes advanced artificial intelligence models that can run on common graphics processing units (GPUs). Released in late November, LTXV can generate a 5-second AI video clip with a resolution of 768x512 in just 4 seconds, making it stand out among other AI video platforms. With 2 billion parameters, it provides rapid processing times even at 30.25 frames per second on NVIDIA H100 GPUs and RTX 4090, without compromising video quality and consistency.
In addition to short clips, LTXV also supports longer AI videos, offering creators greater control and flexibility. The model is capable of real-time video processing and is designed for scalability and accessibility, which may attract a broader audience.
Adhering to an open-source strategy, challenging industry giants
Lightricks is the company behind the AI photo editing app Facetune. In the face of industry giants like OpenAI's DALL-E, Adobe's Firefly, and Google's Imagen, the company insists on keeping its AI video model open-source. Lightricks offers LTXV for free to anyone, which is a bold marketing strategy.
VentureBeat describes this open-source approach as a "thoughtful gamble" aimed at creating a unique selling proposition to attract a larger audience in the competitive generative AI market.
Zeev Farbman, co-founder and CEO of Lightricks, stated in an interview with VentureBeat, "We believe that foundational models will become a commodity, and you can't build a real business around foundational models."
The company bets on open collaboration with others, hoping to foster innovation and increase adoption rates. The more people from different communities freely adopt LTXV, the more likely Lightricks is to benefit from its business. Lightricks is engaged in a long-term game, focusing on large-scale deployment.
Farbman added, "If startups want a serious competitive chance, this technology needs to be open, and you must ensure that people from the world’s top universities have access to your models and can build features on top of them."
For now, LTXV is a legitimate alternative to internal platforms within the industry. Its unique feature of significantly reducing the wait time for generating AI video clips provides a better user experience.
Lightricks' move undoubtedly challenges traditional AI video processing models and offers new ideas for the future development of AI technology. Whether the open-source strategy will help Lightricks stand out in the competitive market remains to be seen.
