Recently, Apple announced the suspension of the notification summary feature for all news and entertainment apps in the latest developer preview versions of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3 due to serious misinformation generated by AI in news notifications.

This adjustment stems from a previous complaint by the BBC. The BBC pointed out that Apple's AI system severely distorted facts in a report, incorrectly claiming that Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder case of UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson, chose to commit suicide by gunshot.

To enhance user experience and increase transparency, Apple plans to introduce several improvements in future updates: all AI-generated notification summaries will be displayed in italics to help users distinguish them from regular notifications. Users will be able to directly disable notification summaries for specific apps on the lock screen, and a beta feature prompt will be added in settings to alert users that this feature may contain errors.

These improvements align with Apple's previous commitment to "further clarify" AI-generated content. Although there have been rumors that Apple will add new labels or badges to identify AI-generated content, these features have not yet appeared in the current preview version.

The public beta of iOS 18.3 is expected to be released next week, but the specific release date for the official version has yet to be determined. Until then, the notification summary feature for news and entertainment apps will remain disabled until the relevant improvements are completed.
