Professional social networking platform Read.cv recently announced its acquisition by the AI-powered search engine Perplexity. This acquisition means that Read.cv will officially cease operations this Friday, and users can export their data, including profiles, posts, and messages, until the deadline of May 16.

Read.cv stated in its official blog: “We have always admired Perplexity and believe that great things happen when the world's knowledge becomes more open and accessible. In this spirit, we are very excited to join Perplexity's design and engineering team to continue our shared mission of exploration and discovery.” This news has also been widely shared on social media.

Perplexity's CEO, Aravind Srinivasan, welcomed this news on social media, praising the Read.cv team's capabilities in designing and building consumer and social experiences, and expressing eagerness to explore new directions together.

Founded in 2021 by former Facebook, Mozilla, and Salesforce's Quip product designer Andy Zhong, Read.cv provides users with a range of tools to share resumes and connect with peers. Additionally, Read.cv offers organizations features such as team profiles, job postings, and candidate searches.

Recently, Read.cv launched the “Sites” feature, allowing users to create websites using their profiles, and users can also obtain a “.cv” domain from Read.cv and associate it with their profiles. Read.cv announced that starting January 31, it will begin migrating the “.cv” domain to its partner Hello.cv, allowing users to continue managing these domains.

Currently, Perplexity's future plans for Read.cv are not clear, but it is evident that Perplexity is gradually increasing its investment in enterprise service features. Last summer, Perplexity launched an enterprise plan that includes user management and internal knowledge search functionalities. This move may also be aimed at satisfying investors' demands for quick returns on their investments. Perplexity has reportedly raised over $500 million from various investors, with a valuation reaching $9 billion.

Read.cv is the third company acquired by Perplexity, which previously acquired Carbon, focused on connecting AI systems with external data sources, and in 2023 acquired Spellwise, whose CEO was brought in to develop Perplexity's mobile application.
