AI media technology company Runway has announced the launch of its latest text-to-image generation model - Frames. Known for its AI video models, Runway aims to expand its influence in the field of image creation with this initiative.

The launch of Frames has received widespread acclaim from users, especially for its ability to generate cinematic visual effects. The model was first unveiled in November 2024 and has been made available to users in the Runway Creator Program for testing over the past few weeks, now it is open to all subscribers.

Using Frames requires a subscription to Runway's Unlimited Plan or Business Plan, with a monthly fee of $95 and an annual subscription costing $912, while the Business Plan has an annual fee of $1500. Users can generate static images through Runway's website and easily use them as base material for animation with Runway's image-to-video model.

Runway's co-founder and CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela stated that Frames is tailored for professional creative work, suitable for various fields such as editing, art direction, pre-visualization, brand development, and production. The model's prompt system offers high precision and depth, helping users achieve more natural, nuanced, and cinematic effects.

User feedback indicates that Frames can not only design worlds with specific perspectives and aesthetic characteristics but also provide a broad space for creative exploration while maintaining stylistic consistency. Compared to previous more random image generation models, Frames' stability allows users to establish a unique visual identity for their projects.

Upon launch, Frames comes equipped with 19 preset visual styles for users to choose from and customize, including "Vivid," "High Contrast," "Black and White," "Dreamlike," etc., showcasing a wide range of creative possibilities. Frames excels in rendering advanced textures, natural lighting, and complex compositions, offering more flexibility for creative professionals.

Additionally, Runway places a strong emphasis on safety and ethical issues. Frames includes robust content moderation features to prevent misuse, while embedding invisible watermarks in all AI-generated content to comply with content sourcing standards. These watermarks allow for tracing the origins of generated content, aiming to reduce the risks of misinformation and abuse.

Currently, Runway is facing a copyright lawsuit regarding whether it used the works of human artists without permission, with the related case still under review.
