Recently, a new study from the SEO platform BrightEdge revealed that since January 1, 2023, the number of mentions of YouTube in Google AI overviews has increased by 25.21%. This growth is particularly significant in the healthcare sector, attracting widespread attention within the industry.

The research indicates that YouTube is favored in Google AI overviews mainly because it offers rich educational content, visual demonstrations, verification examples, and current news. Although a lawyer from Google pointed out that less than 1% of YouTube video views come from search engine traffic, Google still tends to prioritize content from its own platform, especially in cases requiring visual presentation, such as step-by-step tutorials and product comparisons.

Specifically, the increase in YouTube mentions across different content types is very notable. Mentions of educational content grew by 35.6%, with "how-to" queries having the highest citation rate at 22.4%. Meanwhile, mentions of visual demonstration content also rose by 32.5%, primarily focusing on queries related to physical techniques and style guides. Additionally, mentions in verification and example content grew by 22.5%, mainly used for product comparisons and showcasing visual evidence. Mentions related to current events increased by 9.4%, primarily reflected in queries for breaking news and live reports.

From an industry perspective, the healthcare sector has the highest proportion of YouTube mentions at 41.97%. This is followed by the e-commerce sector with a share of 30.87%. In the B2B tech sector, the citation share is 18.68%. The financial industry has a relatively low citation share of 9.52%, while the travel, insurance, and education sectors have citation rates of 8.65%, 8.62%, and 3.87%, respectively.

This data reflects the importance of video content in information dissemination and indicates that content creators should focus on integrating SEO strategies when producing videos to enhance their visibility and exposure in Google AI overviews.
