YouTube has announced a new artificial intelligence video generation feature to help creators better produce short videos (Shorts). This update combines Google's Veo2 video model with YouTube's experimental Dream Screen feature, allowing users to generate standalone video clips that can be directly added to their Shorts.

Since its launch in September 2023, the Dream Screen feature has been capable of generating images and videos based on text descriptions, initially serving as a virtual green screen background. Now, when users utilize this feature, they can simply open the Shorts camera, enter the media selector, and click the "Create" option at the top to start generating videos. Users can describe the desired content by entering text prompts and choose from various options like video style, shots, cinematic effects, and duration. This brand-new video clip generation feature streamlines the creative process and enhances the short video creation experience.

YouTube states that this new feature has already been launched in countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to expand to more regions in the future. However, since Google's latest Veo model is still in the early access phase and available to the public via a waiting list, this update feels particularly novel for users. The integration of Veo2 allows Dream Screen to generate videos more quickly and provides more detailed and realistic effects for real-world physics and human motion.

To ensure transparency in generated content, YouTube has stated that the generated videos will carry visual labels and Google's invisible SynthID watermark to identify that these videos were created or modified using artificial intelligence technology. This initiative helps maintain the integrity of creative content while providing users with clearer direction and assurance during the creation process.
