Recently, in a popular podcast, OpenAI CEO Altman openly shared the challenges the company is currently facing and its strategies to address them. With the rapid rise of the emerging force DeepSeek globally, OpenAI is feeling unprecedented competitive pressure.
Altman stated that DeepSeek, as a competitor from China, has launched a new model that is not only powerful but also reportedly cost-effective, which has caused widespread shock throughout the industry. In light of this situation, he admitted, "We work hard every day to stay ahead and avoid being surpassed. The emergence of DeepSeek is not surprising, but we know that the rise of strong competitors and advanced models is an inevitable trend in the industry's development."
To tackle this challenge, Altman revealed that OpenAI is actively seeking opportunities to communicate with the DeepSeek team in order to gain a deeper understanding of their technology and market strategies, thereby better formulating their own response strategies.
Additionally, Altman announced a significant update: OpenAI will launch the GPT-5 model in the coming months. This model will integrate many of OpenAI's advanced technologies, including o3, and will be widely applied in the ChatGPT chatbot and API platform. Notably, OpenAI has decided not to release o3 as a standalone model but to incorporate it into GPT-5.
For users, a piece of good news is that the free version of ChatGPT will allow users to engage in unlimited conversations using GPT-5 under standard intelligent settings, while OpenAI will implement a series of measures to prevent abuse. This initiative will undoubtedly enhance the user experience and meet the needs of more users.
