Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI released its latest flagship AI model, Grok3, on Monday evening, along with new features for iOS and the web. Grok is xAI's response to models like OpenAI's GPT-4o and Google's Gemini, capable of analyzing images and answering questions, and it offers various functionalities on Musk's social network X.

The development of Grok3 took several months, and although it was initially expected to launch in 2024, it was officially released on Monday. xAI utilized around 200,000 GPUs at a large data center in Memphis to train Grok3. During a live demonstration, Musk stated that Grok3's computational power is "10 times" greater than its predecessor, Grok2, and that the training dataset has been expanded to include court case documents.

Grok3 is not a single model but a family of models, including Grok3mini, which can respond to questions faster but with slightly reduced accuracy. xAI claims that Grok3 outperformed GPT-4o in multiple benchmark tests, including assessments on math and physics problems. Two variants, Grok3Reasoning and Grok3mini Reasoning, can "think" more carefully about problems, helping to avoid common pitfalls.

In the Grok application, users can request Grok3 to "think" or use the "Big Brain" mode for deeper reasoning on more complex questions. Additionally, xAI has launched a new feature called DeepSearch, which analyzes information from the internet and X, providing summaries when users ask questions.

xAI's premium subscription users will be the first to access Grok3, while other features will need to be unlocked through a new program called SuperGrok. SuperGrok is priced at $30 per month or $300 per year, offering additional reasoning and DeepSearch query capabilities.

In the future, the Grok application will also introduce a "voice mode," enabling the Grok model to perform voice synthesis. Musk stated that Grok2 will be open-sourced once Grok3 is mature and stable, which is expected to happen in a few months.

Since its initial announcement two years ago, Grok has maintained a bold and unconventional image. While earlier Grok models were cautious on certain political topics, Musk has promised to make Grok more neutral, although it remains unclear whether this goal has been achieved.
