Recently, Indian IT service giant Infosys has been actively negotiating with German automaker Daimler to expedite the renewal of a $3 billion contract, aiming to extend their collaboration beyond 2028 based on the existing agreement. A highlight of this renewal is that Infosys plans to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the new agreement, adding a new revenue stream to its current service offerings.

This eight-year contract, known as the "Doubling Down Plan," was signed in December 2020 and covers six main service areas, including network management, security services, SAP infrastructure, data centers, workplace, and operational support. According to the contract, Infosys is set to earn an average annual revenue of $400 million, with $160 million coming from data centers and $240 million from software and hardware services.
According to related news, the new Request for Proposal (RFP) will include AI elements, a change that is expected to further enhance the annual revenue Infosys receives from Daimler. The discussions between the two parties are currently in the preliminary stages, with a strong likelihood of reaching a potential agreement next year.
After splitting into the Mercedes-Benz Group and Daimler Trucks in 2021, Daimler remains one of Infosys's key clients, ranking among its top three clients alongside Apple and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Previously, Infosys signed a 10-year contract worth $1.89 billion with Vanguard, which was one of the largest deals achieved under the leadership of current CEO Salil Parekh.
Currently, large-scale contracts in the Indian IT industry are becoming increasingly rare, especially those exceeding $1 billion. Aside from the $2.5 billion contract signed between TCS and Aviva last year, there are not many similar large-scale collaboration agreements in the market. Therefore, Infosys hopes to leverage its partnership with Daimler to integrate AI technology into its services, exploring new market opportunities and enhancing revenue.
