Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, launched its highly anticipated flagship AI model, Grok3, last week. This model powers the Grok chatbot app for mobile and web, as well as the Grok experience on Musk's X social network.

Initial data shows Grok3's launch significantly boosted app downloads and usage. Sensor Tower data reveals that global and US mobile app downloads for Grok increased by more than 10 times within a week of Grok3's release. Simultaneously, daily active users in the US surged by 260%, while global daily active users saw a 5-fold increase.

It's noteworthy that Grok3's launch coincided with the app's expansion into Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. This market expansion likely contributed to some of the global user growth. Meanwhile, the Grok web app also performed exceptionally well. Similarweb data shows US daily visits to Grok.com soared from approximately 189,000 to 900,000, while global daily visits jumped from 627,000 to 4.5 million.

Despite these impressive figures, xAI's ability to sustain this growth and retain users remains a major question. Recent controversies may impact Grok3's popularity. Last weekend, the model briefly censored negative mentions of Trump and Musk, which xAI attributed to a "rogue employee." A few days prior, users discovered Grok3 occasionally suggested that Trump and Musk should be sentenced to death; xAI quickly addressed this issue.
