Tesla's China website announced that its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package has been officially renamed "FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving Function" in the Chinese market, along with an updated description of its capabilities. Despite the name change, the price remains at RMB 64,000. Before the renaming, the FSD function was directly translated as "Fully Automated Driving Capability."
According to sources within Tesla, the company has decided to standardize the Chinese description of FSD as "Intelligent Assisted Driving Function" or "Intelligent Assisted Driving System," although this description omits the "FSD" prefix compared to the official website name.
Earlier today, Tesla began rolling out the 2024.45.32.12 software update to some customers. The core feature of this update is the "City Street Autopilot Assisted Driving" function, which optimizes the existing Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) function. This allows the vehicle to recognize traffic signals at intersections, perform straight-ahead driving, left turns, right turns, and U-turns, and automatically change lanes based on speed and route. Even without a set navigation route, the vehicle can choose the optimal route based on actual road conditions. This function is currently only available to vehicles equipped with the FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving Function and HW4.0 assisted driving hardware.
The description of the new FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving Function states that it will encompass all the functions of the basic assisted driving and enhanced automatic assisted driving, and plans to introduce Autopilot assisted driving on controlled and city streets in the future. Tesla says that in the future, the vehicle will complete the vast majority of driving tasks with minimal driver intervention. From the description, the "City Street Autopilot Assisted Driving" function released today is part of the FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving Function.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk mentioned in a previous earnings call that the company plans to launch FSD (with driver supervision) in Europe and China in 2025. This renaming and functional upgrade marks Tesla's continued exploration and progress in the field of autonomous driving technology.
