Recently, OpenAI released a suite of new tools on its official website, designed to simplify the development process and enhance the capabilities of AI agents. First, OpenAI introduced the Responses API, which combines chat functionality with various integration tools, including web and file search. This new API, based on ChatGPT's search model, provides real-time information with source citations, offering developers a more flexible foundation. Notably, OpenAI plans to phase out the older Assistants API in 2026, fully transitioning to the Responses API, which will lead to richer and more diverse AI interaction experiences.
Secondly, OpenAI released the Agents SDK, an open-source framework for orchestrating complex workflows between multiple agents. Derived from OpenAI's experimental Swarm project, this SDK features agent handoffs, safety rails, and comprehensive debugging and tracing capabilities. Finally, OpenAI launched the Computer Use Tool, enabling AI to execute tasks directly on a computer through the Operator function.
